Set Up and Manage Classified Ads


The Classified Ads section allows admin to add/edit classified ads, download Classified Ads data, change relevant settings, and add custom fields to the Classified Ads form.


Add/Edit a Classified Ads Category

Before classified ads can be created, you must first create one or more classified ad categories for the ads themselves to fall under.

To add a new classified ad category, go to Information Boards > Classified Ads.

  1. In the Classified Ads - Categories tile, select the green "Add Record" button at the top-left corner of the table; a form will appear.
  • To edit an existing category, intead select the pencil icon to the left of the classified ad record to be edited; the full form will display.

  1. Fill out the form fields:
  • Name
    • The label of the category.
  • Revenue Code
    • A specific code to tie into QuickBooks revenue tracking—for differentiating revenues between classified ads.
  • Description
    • Any notes related to the custom field—only visible to admin.

  1. Select Add Record to save changes.

A green confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen when changes have been successfully saved. Repeat this process for each classified ads category needed.


Add/Edit a Classified Ad

To add a new classified ad, go to Information Boards > Classified Ads.

  1. In the Classified Ads tile (at the top), select the green "Add Record" button at the top-left corner of the table; a form will display.
  • To edit an existing classified ad, intead select the pencil icon to the left of the classified ad record to be edited; the full form will display.

  1. Fill out the form fields:
  • Ad Title
    • The headline of the ad.
  • Category
    • Choose from existing categories (see previous section).
  • Description
    • Use the editor to craft the body of the ad.
  • Custom Fields
    • If admin have created any custom fields (see next section), they will appear here with the labels assigned.
  • Contact Details
    • For the person managing the ad.
  • Do Not Display Posting
    • Check this box if you are not yet ready to make the classified ad visible to non-admin users.

  1. Select Add Classified Ad Record to save changes.

A green confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen when changes have been successfully saved.


Add a Custom Classified Ad Field

To add a custom field to the form for creating new classified ads, go to Information Boards > Classified Ads.

  1. In the Classified Ads - Custom Fields tile, select the green "Add Record" button at the top-left corner of the table; a form will appear.

  2. Fill out the form fields:
  • Display Order
    • The order in which you'd like the custom field to appear relevant to other custom fields; all custom fields must have a numerical value entered to display correctly.
  • Label
    • The label for the custom field.
  • Field Type
    • Select the relevant field type format.
  • Display
    • Check this box if you want the custom field to display when creating a new ad.
  • Require
    • Check this box if you want the custom field to be required.
  • List of Answers
    • Relevant for the Field Type selections "Checkbox," "Single Select Box," and "Multiple Select Box"; capitalize as you want the text to appear, and separate options with commas.
  • Description
    • Any notes related to the custom field—only visible to admin.

  1. Select Add Classified Ad Custom Field to save changes.

A green confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen when changes have been successfully saved. Repeat this process for each custom field needed, and remember to set a sequential Display Order for each.


Change the Classified Ads Settings

To see/change the Classified Ads settings, go to Information Boards > Classified Ads.

  1. In the Classified Ads - Settings tile, fill out the form fields:
  • Notification Email Address
    • The email address you'd like to receive notifications when a new classified ad is posted.
  • Default Expiration Period
    • How long, in months, you'd like new classified ads to be visible to users before being removed.
  • Auto Approve Postings
    • Check this box auto approve classified ad postings without admin approval.
  • Allow Renewals
    • Check this box to allow the the classified ad post to be renewed once it has expired.
  • Allow Public Postings
    • Allows posting to be created by the public.
  • Allow Member Edit
    • Allow the posting member to edit the ad after posting.
  • Member Cost
    • The cost for a member to post a classified ad.
  • Public Cost
    • The cost for a non-member to post a classified ad.
  • Member Renewal Cost
    • The cost for a member to renew their classified ad post once it has expired.
  • Public Renewal Cost
    • The cost for a non-member to renew their classified ad post once it has expired.

  1. Select Update Classified Ad Settings to save changes.

A green confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen when changes have been successfully saved.


Download Classified Ads Data

To download agregate Classified Ads data, go to Information Boards > Classified Ads.

  1. In the Classified Ads - Download Data tile, fill out the Date Posted Between and/or Date Expires Between fields.

  2. Check/uncheck the Suppress Ad Description box.
  • Removes the description of the ad from member and/or public view.

  1. Select Get Download; an Excel file will download to your browser's designated Downloads folder.
